A word with Michelle
Where do you want your Journey to lead you?
I plan to become a character designer for a AAA video game studio some day. I'm super into concept art and character design, so it's really what my number one goal is for my future.
What would you like to achieve within the next year?
I want to be a part of a published video game. Right now I'm working on one or two, so my hope is to get at least one of them finished in the next year or two. I also want to improve my artwork a lot!
So far, how have you been developing your skills?
Draw! I have a daily routine where I will draw for at least an hour as soon as I wake up. This hour is dedicated to improving my fundamental skills (anatomy, gestures, etc.). Then I will make up a new character each day to improve digitally.
Where does your motivation come from?
Surprisingly enough, sometimes I actually get motivated by my past self, by looking back on stories I've written. Lots of times I'll listen to music and try to come up with stories, and it can help motivate me a lot.
Where do you go when you seek inspiration?
I usually will just browse my social media websites, since I'm following tons of super amazing artists. Friends and professional are extremely inspirational to me.
What are some of your favorite artists and genres?
There are way too many great artists out there to choose a favorite. Though, just to name a few of the artists that I look up to a lot would include Goro Fujita, Alex Alvarado, Chris Oatley, Akira Toriyama, and Chris Campbell (and many more!!).
What do you listen to?
Mostly video game soundtracks. They really get me motivated while I work.
What are some of your favorite movies and filmmakers?
Disney and Pixar films have always been my favorites. Oliver & Company, Mulan, Aladdin, Tarzan, and Lion King hold special places in my heart. But more recently, I really enjoyed Zootopia, Monsters University, Big Hero 6, and Inside Out.
What is your favorite website?
deviantART has always been my favorite site. The community is just so welcoming and it's where I started my artist career.
